Australia Extends Working Holiday Visa to Ages 18-30

The Australia Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417) has undergone a significant update. It now allows individuals aged 18 to 35 to apply. This extends the previous age limit of 30, making the visa accessible to a broader group of young adults.

This update marks the first change to the visa since the establishment of the UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement (UKFTA) in 1975. As a result of this change, an estimated 16 million people are now eligible to apply for the visa. With 35,000 British citizens already taking advantage of this opportunity, these numbers are expected to increase.

Further 2024 Changes

Since 1st July 2024, British citizens can live and work in Australia for up to three years without meeting specific employment criteria. The Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417) is tailored for British residents aged 18 to 35 who wish to experience life and work in Australia for up to 12 months.

In addition to working, the visa permits study at an Australian institution for up to four months. It allows for various types of employment, including full-time, part-time, and voluntary work.

Opportunities Down Under

The appeal of this visa has led to a surge in applications, with approval times ranging from as little as 24 hours to 14 days. Many Brits are seizing this chance to explore life in Australia.

The initial 12-month period isn't necessarily the limit for all visa holders. Those engaged in regional or farm work may extend their stay for one to two years, depending on their visa conditions, employment contracts, and compliance with Australian government regulations. For those not involved in farm work, an extension of 12 months is possible after the initial year, provided they have completed at least three to six months of work during their stay.

This change opens new doors for young Britons eager to explore Australia's opportunities and experiences. With the visa's extended age range and more flexible criteria, the appeal of living and working down under is stronger than ever.
